Barn Buddies
Looking for a fun and memorable introduction to horses for your child?
Barn Buddies is designed for younger children who are not quite ready for formal lessons but want a hands-on experience at the barn.
This structured, interactive program introduces children to grooming, tacking and basic horse care in a welcoming environment. There is no long-term commitment, making it a great choice for a special outing or first-time visit.
During the one-hour session, children will:
- Participate in grooming and tacking with an instructor
- Learn about brushes, tack and basic horse care
- Enjoy a 30-minute hand-led ride in the arena
Program Details
- $65 per child for a one-hour session
- Up to four children per session
- Ages 3 and up
- Adult supervision is required at all times
- An adult must walk alongside the child during the ride
- Offered based on instructor availability

Introduction to Horsemanship
Curious whether riding is the right fit for you or your child? Want to better understand horse care, safety and handling?
Introduction to Horsemanship classes offer a hands-on overview of life around the barn. Each one-hour session can be customized based on your interests and experience level, making it a great option for future riders, horse owners, parents and anyone interested in learning more about equine care.

Private Lessons
Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction tailored to each rider’s individual goals and experience level.
Lessons are collaborative and supportive, helping riders develop confidence, communication and horsemanship skills both in and out of the saddle.

Sunday at the Stables
Sunday at the Stables is a two-week horsemanship program designed for young riders who want to build confidence and horse knowledge from the ground up.
During the first week, participants learn the basics of barn safety, equine body language and feeding routines. In week two, riders explore horse care in more depth through hands-on activities, including practicing how to respond to simulated injuries and learning to recognize signs of distress.

Riding Lessons
Whether you’re brand new to riding or ready to build on existing skills, the Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center Riding School offers English and Western lessons for riders of all experience levels, from beginner through intermediate.
Riders can learn on one of our trusted school horses or bring their own horse to lessons.
Our Riding School follows a standardized level system that helps riders track progress, build confidence and understand the skills needed to advance.

Celebrate Your Birthday at the Barn
Celebrate your special day with a memorable horse experience at the barn.
Birthday parties include a one-hour hand-led riding experience where children take turns riding the same horse. After the ride, families are welcome to continue the celebration with cake and presents in the indoor riding school office, at the outdoor picnic tables or at the Dakota Lodge playground.
Food is not provided.
Party Details
- $150 includes one instructor and one horse
- Up to six children included
- Additional horses or riders may be available upon request
Payment is due at the time of booking through the scheduling platform. All waivers must be submitted at least one week before the scheduled party.
Before You Arrive
- Closed-toe shoes are required for riding
- Long pants are recommended
- Parents are responsible for children when they are not riding
- Please avoid running or shouting near the horses
- Decorations are welcome inside the office
- Balloons are not permitted
- Children ages 4–5 may ride with a parent walking alongside and must bring their own helmet

Additional Information
The Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center is a community amenity owned by Ken-Caryl residents. Nonresidents participating in programs or activities are subject to a 20% nonresident fee.
Payment is due at the time of booking through the Equestrian Center’s online scheduling system.
