Open Space Volunteer Opportunities

Ken-Caryl Ranch’s open space is one of the community’s most valued assets. Volunteers help protect trails, support healthy ecosystems, and preserve the natural beauty that makes our community unique.

Whether you’re interested in trail stewardship, conservation projects, or community-led outdoor initiatives, there are many ways to get involved.

Looking for Ranger-led volunteer programs?

Ken-Caryl Conservation Club

The Ken-Caryl Conservation Club promotes awareness and resident involvement in protecting open space, wildlife, and natural habitats. The club supports conservation education and encourages community participation in environmental stewardship efforts.

New members are always welcome.

Ken-Caryl Weed Warriors

Help protect the natural beauty and health of Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space by joining the Ken-Caryl Weed Warriors.

Invasive weeds can displace native plants that are essential to healthy ecosystems and wildlife habitats. While herbicides play a role in integrated pest management, volunteer stewardship is also an important part of protecting open space.

Led by resident and Master Gardener Dawn Hendry, the Weed Warriors work alongside Ken-Caryl Ranger and Natural Resource Specialist Nick DeCarolis to help remove invasive weeds throughout the community’s open space areas.

Volunteer Opportunities

Community members of all experience levels are welcome to participate. Before volunteering, participants attend a training session to learn how to identify and safely remove invasive species such as:

  • Mullein
  • Canada thistle
  • Musk thistle
  • Other noxious weeds

The Weed Warriors season typically begins with a spring kick-off event, followed by volunteer days throughout May, June and July.

What to Bring

Volunteers are encouraged to bring:

  • A pointed shovel
  • Gloves
  • A hat
  • High boots
  • Sunscreen
  • Water

The Weed Warriors program is a great opportunity for individuals, families, Scout troops and community groups looking to make a positive impact while helping preserve Ken-Caryl’s grasslands and open space.
