Ranger Volunteer Opportunities

Ken-Caryl Ranch Rangers help care for our open space, support wildlife stewardship and promote safe, enjoyable trail experiences for the community.

Ranger Volunteer Opportunities give residents the chance to work alongside Rangers through education, outreach, wildlife monitoring and trail support programs.

Ranger Volunteer Programs

Volunteer Patrollers

Volunteer Patrollers serve as an extension of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Park Ranger team. Volunteers help educate visitors about open space rules, promote responsible trail use, and provide an extra friendly presence throughout the trail system.

In addition to regular patrols, volunteers may assist Rangers at community events and support seasonal outreach efforts.

What to Expect:

  • Training in ranger services, conflict management and emergency response
  • Opportunities to support community education and outreach
  • A visible role helping create a positive trail experience

Bluebird Nest Box Monitoring

Bluebird Nest Box Monitoring volunteers help track and monitor nesting activity throughout Ken-Caryl Ranch open space areas. This program supports local wildlife conservation efforts while helping volunteers learn more about native bird species and habitats.

What to Expect:

  • Seasonal monitoring opportunities
  • Outdoor observation work in open space areas
  • Wildlife and habitat education
  • Training and support from Rangers

Wildlife Outreach Team

The Wildlife Outreach Team (WOT) is a volunteer program led by the Ken-Caryl Ranch Ranger team in partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

This group of trained volunteers helps educate residents and visitors about living responsibly alongside local wildlife, especially bears and deer. Volunteers may be seen at trailheads, intersections, community events, and throughout open space areas helping share important wildlife awareness information.

Volunteer Opportunities May Include:

  • Sharing information about safe wildlife interactions
  • Supporting wildlife education and outreach efforts
  • Rotating and maintaining educational signage in open space areas
  • Helping promote responsible recreation and wildlife awareness

Wildlife Outreach Team volunteers wear official WOT shirts and name tags, making them easy to recognize on the trails. While the team is intentionally kept small, residents are encouraged to stop and ask questions to learn more about local wildlife and open space stewardship.

The Wildlife Outreach Team is directed by the Ken-Caryl Rangers, with training and supplies provided through Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
